Moist, juicy leaves
During my limited cooking career, I've masterminded some awesome food disasters. There was the time when I made meatballs and rice. Yes, I said rice. Instead of cooking the required spaghetti, I inadvertently boiled a pot of rice. Yet I didn't even realize it until it was time to serve dinner.
Then there was the Atkins dessert disaster. The cake recipe called for ground Hazel nuts. Unable to find any Hazel nuts at the store, I substituted chocolate flavored coffee beans. Oh, it smelled great but tasted like eating a bar of grit - a bar of coffee flavored grit. Never had grit? Try eating a handful of sand. Then washing it down with some coffee. Mmmm.
Which leads me to tonight's episode. While grilling hamburgers this evening, I managed to scoot one off of the grill into the leaves. The burger was determined not to get on the spatula, moving around the grill like it had a purpose. No worries right? The rule says I have 5 seconds. The harder I tried to get the burger back on the spatula, the more it got covered in leaves. After several attempts the burger is resting gently on the spatula, until it flips over into the leaves again. Now both sides of the burger are covered in leaves. Tonight's main entree is a bbq'd burger smeared in leaves with a side of dirt. Tasty!
Is there a 1 minute rule which includes leaves and dirt? Yes there is. This is the dog rule. I manage to get the burger off the ground, rinse it off & then give it to the dog.
Later in the evening, I noticed Fritter is awful quiet. And when the dog is quiet, she's usually doing something bad. I find her outside, licking the leaves where the burger fell. How can you lick a leaf without getting it stuck to your tongue? You can't. She ate some burger leaves as well.
Anyone want to come over for dinner? I'll order a pizza.

De-speckled
My kitchen finally has a new floor. The previous floor, while not pretty, lasted some fifty-plus years. In fact, the floor was down right ugly. It was white with black, green and red specs. Yes, specs. Anyway, now the baseboards and molding need a fresh coat of paint. But that's a project for another day.
I managed to run 4 miles today, which happens to be the scheduled mileage. My training plan has been altered a bit due to the black belt test. I opted to rest the week before testing instead of running. My muscles, especially my ankles, needed a rest.
I've discovered running four isn't much more difficult than running three. Although I can run further, my 5k time hasn't improved much. According to the running experts, as your mileage increases, so will your time. Well, I'm waiting. It's been two months since the last 5k race and yet my times are marginally better. And for just a little salt, my best training 5k time is still 2 minutes slower than Lutey's time. Damn you and your long legs!
