I do not want to disappoint our Japanese public, especially Godzilla. Hahaha! I'm just kidding, I know he doesn't care what humans do.

What did your mother mean when she called you a beautiful genius? Was she taunting you?

Cursed

I can curse a food/drink/item by simply purchasing copious quantities of said product.

Watch me find a product, fall in love with it, buy it in bulk, love it even more, then discover every store in town quits selling it and finally learn the company no longer produces it.

The following is a list of currently cursed goods:

  • EAS Cookies and Cream Protein Bar
  • Atkins Advantage Protein Bars
  • Fufill grape drink mix (sugar free)
  • Propel grape drink mix
  • Lemon-lime Sport Beans (jelly belly)
  • Pringles snack pack
  • Fresechetta Thin Crust Cheese Pizza
  • Moonshine Music (techno & house cds)
  • Purina Healthy Morsels Dog food
  • Box of Busy Bones
  • Fruit Loops Snack packs
  • Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (4 per tube)
  • Mint oreos
  • Glade Plug-In – Clean Linen

Somehow I will attempt to redirect this power for my benefit. With enough time and effort I will personally rid the world of:
  • Mushrooms
  • Cider
  • Beans (all varieties)
  • Crocs
  • Lean Cuisine Frozen Dinners
  • Capri Pants

Blue It

The race blues and exhaustion have set up shop today. I've been rather worthless the whole day but managed to compile a list of stuff.

  • I beat the really fat lady in the race. She sure can swim & bike, but my turtle run beat her snail waddle. Hey, it's the small victories in life which keep me going.
  • My race outfit is horrendous and I abhor it. I didn't abhor it when I bought it. I didn't abhor it on race day but they say a picture...
  • I'm buying a new race outfit and burning the other one.
  • My transitions were faster even with the dual sock change, wet grass and longer run.
  • Next time I'll fill both bottles with Gatorade instead of one water - one Gatorade.
  • My bottom of my right foot is sore from the gravel.
  • Long rides with frequent stops because of neighborhood traffic do not actually train you for a long ride with no stops.
  • Competing without a watch was not as torturous as I imagined.
  • Permanent marker on skin does not come off with soap, alcohol or fingernail polish remover.
  • Revise training plans to include an actual plan.
  • The bike computer is ka-put. It was my max speed was 167 mph.
  • First place winner with a time of 59 minutes, what the hell? I couldn't beat that time with a car.
  • I beat the fat lady, two year is a row. Prediction: July will make three!

Chicky Chix - Part Deux

I competed in my second super sprint triathlon today, hence the part deux. Everyone sounds more educated when using the word hence. You won't find any mention of part one anywhere on this site, because I'm a grade A slacker. Some sequels are better than the original anyway. Did you see Aliens or Terminator 2? Point made.

Facts:

  • It's a ladies only race. Hey ladies!
  • The event takes place on the LSU campus.
  • 350 meter swim in an indoor pool with 5 second start between athletes
  • 12 miles bike ride down River Road
  • 2 mile run thru campus
Rise and Shine
I prepped all my gear the night before so I wouldn't have to run around panicking at 4am. I only had to air up the tires, load the bike on the rack and go. Breakfast was 3.5 waffles with 1 cup of coffee.

Warm Up
After setting up my transition area, I did about a 15 minute pool warm up. The water temp was surprisingly warm considering it was ice cold last year. Also a cool front came thru last night and the temp was in the 50's. I had to dig out a pair of running pants and jacket as a cover up.

Swim
I seeded myself in the 8 min swim group. I managed to swim non-stop switching my stroke between a 5 and 3 count depending on my oxygen debt. Several male volunteers were stationed by the pool ladder to haul us out of the water - I have the bruises to prove I was hauled up. The water line is about 3-4 feet from the top of the pool. It's not like climbing out of any recreational pool. However a few She-Ra's pulled themselves out of the water without the ladder, but I'm still not sure why.

T1
Again this year, random people got in my way as I ran/shuffled/skipped to the transition area. Why do spectators insist on walking/standing on the course? You are in the way. Move.

I need socks. I'm not one of those people who can wear shoes without socks, unless it's a sandal, then I refuse to wear socks. So after struggling with my socks and bike shoes, I unrack and start the long run to the bike launch. I say long run likes it's a half a mile, but it was several dozen yards further than last year because of the stadium grass dumped on the field a week before the race. This year I'm competing with a road bike, as well as clip-in pedals. Great for biking, but sucky for running thru wet grass.

Bike
My plan was to pedal easy for a few miles, then mash the gears. Once my legs got churning, I hit 17-18mph...or so said the bike computer. Ate my rice krispie treat about a third way into the ride for my energy/carb boost. My stomach can't handle most of the gels and gus other racers use. It kicked in about 10 minutes later.

As promised, the vehicles on River Road were impatient and rude. Cars weaving in and out of bikers, at outrageous speeds, is ridiculous. The racers occuppied a 6 mile stretch of the road and most cars couldn't be bothered with our safety. Once I made the mile 6 turnaround, the headwind hit, dropping my speed to a low of 12 mph. The wind did not ease up until I made it back to campus.

T2
I practiced taking my feet out of the bike shoes while riding and it worked flawlessly. I managed to save time not fumbling with my bike shoes, but hurt the bottom of my feet running thru gravel. My socks, however, got soaking wet from the grass run again. On a whim, I brought a second pair and decided to use them. I took the extra time to change again, saving my feet from blisters.

Run
Turtle slow. I run turtle slow. The route was extended this year and I managed to complete the entire run without a walk break.

Summary
I improved my performance over last year, but only just a little bit. I didn't exhausted during any part of the race, which probably means maybe I didn't push hard enough.

Race Festivities
Besides stray spectators on the course, my only gripe is the food/drink situation after the race. A bottle of water and an orange is not enough for me. Learning my lesson from last year, I packed an after the race snack to hold me over until I got a full meal.

Race Reward
Indulge in the scrumptousness of a Cane's Box with extra toast.
